Misfortune Strikes One of Our Own



Many of you know Gary Mort, our web engineer. He is very active on the JoomlaNYC list and the PHP list, always offering suggestions or making insightful comments. He founded the Joomla NYC Users Group, and continues to be a frequent speaker, even though he has to take the bus 2+ hours down from Kingston in the Hudson Valley to attend the meetings.



Gary moved to a new house on April 1st. On April 2nd, the house burned down with all their possesions. Gary, his wife Sandy, and their 4 kids escaped without harm.

Migrate your Site to Joomla 1.5

As of July 22, 2009 the Joomla! 1.0.x series will no longer be supported. What does that mean for your 1.0.x sites? They will continue to run, of course, but security updates will cease, extension programmers will stop upgrading their components, and the fantastic progress in the Joomla development world will leave you behind.

 

 

Wondering if you should upgrade your 1.0 site to 1.5 now, or wait for 1.6?

 

All indications are that 1.6 will not have a legacy mode and will not support components written for 1.0. If you migrate to 1.5 now, you can run legacy mode while development of native 1.6 components catches up.

 

So our advice? Migrate now to 1.5. Continue to use those legacy components while you migrate to 1.5 native components and make your site 1.6 ready!
